Adult Treatment

Orthodontic Treatment isn't just for kids anymore.

Over twenty-five percent of our patients are adults. Many adults have always wanted straight teeth or a better smile, and with clear braces or Invisalign more adults are receiving orthodontic treatment than ever before.

Is there a best time for adults to receive treatment?

The sooner adults receive treatment, the less chance there is for tooth damage caused by misaligned or incorrect bite relationships. Such a condition can make the edges of the teeth look uneven when orthodontic treatment is complete requiring restorative treatment from your dentist. Also it’s best to correct these misaligned or incorrect bite relationships before gum problems develop.

Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?

We have treated MANY adults, even senior citizens, who have been thrilled with the results they have obtained from receiving orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic treatment at later stages in life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem. Improving the health of your teeth and gums is equally important. Crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute to gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of the tooth enamel and surfaces, headaches and jaw joint (TMJ/TMD) pain.

Do my teeth move slower because of my age?

It's true there is a greater potential for creating change with younger patients, but most of that is due to our ability to assist or change growth--referred to as orthopedic treatment. However, I am often amazed at how much faster we can move teeth with adults due to their increased level of cooperation.

Good news!

The new techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten treatment time and may allow you to choose from several options. Your options may include metal braces, translucent braces or transparent aligners to improve misaligned teeth.

During the initial examination, we will be able to determine the best possible treatment for your individual needs. During this initial examination, we can outline the treatment plan, time of treatment expected and cost.

Our adult patients agree that it’s never too late to improve their greatest asset - their smile.
